Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tala learned to appreciate its eclectic cultural mix and her Filipino heritage. Her aesthetic and style is a direct product of this exposure.
Despite the encouragement of friends to pursue her creative side, her journey into fashion was not immediate. After receiving her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, it took a year of law school before she realized that she belonged in the fashion industry. At FIDM she studied Merchandise Product Development and completed an advanced program in International Manufacturing & Product Development. While in school, she worked in all facets of the apparel industry, including retail and corporate experience in merchandising and design. "While at FIDM, I juggled work, school and raising my son, Lucas. He was very young, so I dreamed of using my creativity to make something for him."
This lead to the birth of her own children's clothing label, Tala Bee. With her love of beautiful textiles and simple silhouettes, she wanted to create a line for children that is easy to wear. Tala's attention to detail can be seen by the embellishment of these silhouettes by intricate vintage laces and subtle detailing that make each piece special.
